WoW is an enduring MMORPG, perhaps the greatest MMORPG. It allows players to level up and fight as a member of Azeroth in a land full of magic, death, elves and dragons until they become part of the legend.
Although it has been 20 years since WoW was first released in 2004, many players still miss the first few versions of this game. Therefore, in 2024, developers launched WoW Classic 20th Anniversary to let players relive the early days of the game.
Class Differences Between Retail WoW And Classic
WoW 20th Anniversary has some changes compared to the current WoW, and WoW 20th Classic has made some adjustments to the class.
Compared to modern WoW, WoW 20th Anniversary has reduced some classes and made some changes to some classes:
- 14 classes have been reduced to 9.
- You cannot choose Death Knights, Monks, Demon Hunters, Evokers, and Preservers in WoW Classic 20th Anniversary.
- Alliance players can’t choose Shaman, and Horde players can’t choose Paladins.
Your race cannot be changed after it’s chosen, so choose your race + class combination carefully, as some combinations have a big impact on DPS.
- Priests have unique racial traits based on their race.
- Druids have three talent trees instead of four. Guardian (tank) and Feral (DPS) Druids can use Feral Comba.
- Rogues have combat specializations, while Desperadoes don’t.
- Hunters have a sophisticated pet loyalty system, and Survival is a ranged DPS specialty. And Hunters require special training and feeding of pets.
Talents And Specializations
Dual Talent Specialization was introduced in WoW 20th Anniversary, but the option to dual talents and save multiple talent builds is not yet available.
You first need to choose a class, then learn abilities with specific characteristics from the talent tree, instead of choosing a specialization from a class and then learning skills.
Besides, the talent system has only three parts, and the choices are much less than in the modern WoW.
Talent System
In WoW 20th Anniversary, there are 3 talent trees. Players have a total of 51 talent points. You can unlock the first talent point at level 10, and you can unlock all talent points at level 60. You can divide all talent points evenly among the three talent trees, or you can allocate most of the talent points to a talent tree to unlock the final power of the talent tree.
Talents can change weapon skills or existing abilities, or they can bring new abilities to the player. When you use 11, 21, or 31 talent points in a talent tree, you can unlock new abilities. Here are the abilities you’ll unlock at 31 points in the talent tree:
- Adrenaline Rush for Combat
- Dark Pact for Affliction
- Shadowform for Shadow
- Combustion for Fire
- Leader of the Pack for Feral Combat
Spell Ranks
One of the biggest differences between Classic WoW and the many expansions that followed is that skills not only require training, but they also have ranks, which increase in power as you level them up. In addition, you can also develop greater skill potential through training, but this requires a certain amount of WoW 20th Gold for sale. But please believe it is worth it. The higher the player’s level, the higher the skill level that can be trained. Here, use Healing Wave as an example:
- Rank 1: Healing Wave, level 1
- Rank 2: Healing Wave, level 6
- Rank 3: Healing Wave, level 12
- Rank 4: Healing Wave, level 18
- Rank 5: Healing Wave, level 24
- Rank 6: Healing Wave, level 32
- Rank 7: Healing Wave, level 40
- Rank 8: Healing Wave, level 48
- Rank 9: Healing Wave, level 56
- Rank 10: Healing Wave, level 60
The higher the rank of a spell, the more mana it will cost. Thus, some players prefer to use lower rank spells, which can increase the number of uses and save some gold.
Training
Usually you can learn a new ability every two levels, but you must return to the main city to learn these skills at Class Trainer, which costs some gold. You can also reset all your talent points here, which also need you buy WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Gold in advance.
Class Roles
Classes in the game are usually divided into three categories: tank, healer, and DPS. Some classes can also serve a hybrid role.
Tank
A tank is a class that can protect other opponents, take damage or deflect damage.
- Druid (Feral Combat)
- Paladin (Protection)
- Warrior (Protection)
Healer
A healer is a character that focuses on increasing the health of teammates by casting spells, and can also provide buffs to teammates or revive teammates.
- Druid (Restoration)
- Paladin (Holy)
- Priest (Discipline, Holy)

A DPS is a character that reduces the health of a boss through melee or ranged attacks. Melee DPS is usually stronger than ranged DPS.
Ranged DPS:
- Hunter (Beast Mastery, Marksman, Survival)
- Mage (Arcane, Fire, Frost)
- Warlock (Affliction, Demonology, Destruction)
Melee DPS:
- Rogue (Assassination, Combat, Subtlety)
- Warrior (Arms, Fury)

These characters can deal damage and focus more on utility than DPS.
Hybrid Melee:
- Druid (Feral Combat)
- Paladin (Retribution)
- Shaman (Enhancement)
Hybrid Ranged:
- Druid (Balance)
- Priest (Shadow)
- Shaman (Elemental)
