Best Electric Auto Rickshaw in India: 2026 Buyer’s Guide

Choosing an electric auto rickshaw in India today isn’t just about picking a vehicle. For most buyers, it’s a business decision. Every kilometre of range, every hour of charging, and every rupee saved on fuel directly affects daily earnings.

That’s why the electric three-wheeler passenger segment has grown so fast in the last two years. Drivers and fleet operators are no longer choosing between petrol, CNG, and electric based on habit. They’re comparing real numbers: range, running cost, battery warranty, and how quickly a vehicle pays for itself.

Here’s a closer look at five electric auto rickshaws currently available in India, each built for a slightly different type of buyer.

    1. NEO HiRANGE by Euler Motors

The NEO HiRANGE is built specifically for drivers who cover long distances in a single shift. It comes in three variants, HiRANGE, Plus, and Maxx, with ARAI-certified range going up to 261 km on the top-end Maxx variant.

    Key specs worth noting:

    • Range: 171 km to 261 km (ARAI-certified) across variants
    • Motor: 9 kW peak power with 65 Nm torque
    • Charging: 10% to 80% in 3.25 hours
    • Battery: Lithium-ion, integrated into a skateboard chassis
    • Warranty: Up to 6 years or 1.75 lakh km

Euler Motors built this vehicle after two years of R&D that included direct feedback from over 10,000 auto-rickshaw drivers, which shows in how the vehicle is designed around real daily-use patterns rather than a general three-wheeler platform. For drivers running 120 to 200 km a day, ferrying passengers across longer routes or between city zones, the HiRANGE’s extended battery life and quick top-up charging cut down significantly on downtime.

    2. NEO HiCITY by Euler Motors

Where the HiRANGE is built for long hauls, the HiCITY is designed around dense, stop-start city traffic and shared routes.

    Key specs:

    • Range: 171 km to 200 km (ARAI-certified)
    • Motor: 11.7 kW with 72 Nm torque
    • Driving modes: Range Mode (45 km/h, battery-saving) and Thunder Mode (60 km/h, more power)
    • Fast charging: 50 km of range added in just 15 minutes
    • Gradeability: Up to 30%, useful for flyovers and inclines
    • Cabin space: 15-20% more than typical models in its category

The dual driving mode is a practical touch. City drivers spend most of their day at lower speeds conserving battery, but the option to switch to Thunder Mode when climbing a flyover or picking up pace on open stretches gives more flexibility than a single fixed drive mode. The HiCITY also runs on Euler’s Shepherd App, which lets drivers track trips, vehicle health, and performance from their phone.

    3. Kinetic Safar Smart

The Safar Smart sits in the entry-level segment, aimed at drivers who want a straightforward, budget-friendly electric auto without a long list of premium features.

    Key specs:

    • Range: Around 100 to 120 km per charge
    • Motor: 1.2 kW BLDC motor
    • Battery options: 4 kWh lithium-ion or 140 Ah lead-acid
    • Charging time: Roughly 3 hours (lithium-ion variant)
    • Seating: Driver plus 4 passengers

This is a good fit for first-time EV buyers or drivers working shorter, predictable routes within a city, where a 100 km range comfortably covers a full day of trips without needing a mid-shift charge. The battery sits under the passenger seat, shielded from heat and rain, which helps with long-term reliability on rougher roads.

    4. Atul Elite Plus

The Elite Plus is one of the more affordable options in this list, built for operators who prioritise low upfront cost and simple, low-maintenance operation.

    Key specs:

    • Range: Around 80 to 100 km per charge
    • Motor: 850W to 1000W BLDC motor
    • Battery: Lead-acid or lithium-ion, depending on variant
    • Payload capacity: Around 400 kg
    • Charging time: 8 to 10 hours (standard charging)

The Elite Plus is a popular choice among small transport operators and individual drivers who are moving from a fuel-based auto to electric for the first time. It won’t match the range or acceleration of premium models, but it’s a dependable option for narrow city lanes and short, repeated trips where affordability matters more than long range.

    5. Greaves Eltra City

The Eltra City rounds out this list as a mid-to-premium option focused on comfort and tech features alongside solid range.

    Key specs:

    • Range: Around 160 km per charge
    • Battery: 10.8 kWh lithium-ion
    • Motor: 9.6 kW with 49 Nm torque
    • Gradeability: 14 degrees
    • Instrument cluster: 6.2-inch digital display with IoT connectivity
    • Warranty: 3 years, extendable to 5 years

The Eltra City’s full metal body and digital cluster give it a more modern cabin feel compared to some other options in this list, and the IoT-enabled dashboard gives drivers real-time visibility into vehicle performance. It’s built for drivers who want a balance of decent range and daily comfort without going all the way to a long-range model.

    Which One Should You Choose?

There’s no single “best” electric auto rickshaw for everyone. It depends entirely on the kind of driving you do:

    • Long daily routes, 150+ km: NEO HiRANGE offers the strongest range and fastest charging in this list.
    • Dense city and shared routes: NEO HiCITY’s dual driving modes and fast top-up charging suit stop-start traffic well.
    • First-time buyer, shorter routes, tighter budget: NEO HiRANGE, Kinetic Safar Smart or Atul Elite Plus offer lower entry costs with adequate range for city use.
    • Comfort and tech features on a mid-range budget: NEO HiRANGE, Greaves Eltra City balances range with a more modern cabin experience.

Before buying, it’s worth test-driving a couple of these on your actual daily route rather than relying on brochure range figures alone. Real-world range depends heavily on load, traffic, and terrain, and the vehicle that looks best on paper isn’t always the one that fits your specific driving pattern.
